Privacy Policy

Our approach in one paragraph

We collect the minimum we need to run an account and a public link directory. We do not sell your data. We do not build advertising profiles from your activity on this site. You can ask us to show you what we hold about you, correct it, export it, or delete it, and we will do so.

Information we collect

Account information (given by you)

  • Username, display name and email address.
  • A hashed password. We never see or store your password in readable form.
  • Profile information you add to your public profile.

Content you publish (given by you, and public by design)

  • The links you submit, with their title, description, category and tags.
  • Your comments and reports.
  • Your votes and favorites.

This is public. Anything you submit or comment is visible to everyone on the site and may be indexed by search engines. Do not include personal information in a title, description or comment.

Information collected automatically

  • Server logs — IP address, user agent, requested URL and timestamp, kept for security and troubleshooting.
  • Analytics records — if visitor analytics is enabled, we record an anonymous visitor ID, approximate location derived from IP (country and region only), referrer and page views. We do this to understand which categories and pages are useful.
  • Cookies — see below.

How we use your information

  • To operate your account: sign-in, password resets and ban enforcement.
  • To display your public profile and the links you submitted.
  • To moderate content: spam detection, abuse handling and DMCA compliance.
  • To understand aggregate usage so we can improve categories and fix broken links.
  • To send you essential service emails, such as a password reset. We do not send marketing email.

We do not use your data for advertising targeting and we do not share it for that purpose.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies, all of them necessary or strictly useful:

CookiePurpose
Session cookieKeeps you signed in and protects forms against cross-site request forgery. Essential.
Remember meKeeps you signed in across browser sessions, only if you tick the box.
visitor_uuidA random identifier stored in your browser so we can tell visits from the same device for aggregate analytics. Contains no personal information.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Doing so will not stop you using the site, but you will need to sign in again each time.

Advertising

The site is supported by advertising. Third-party vendors, including advertising networks, may set cookies and collect data such as your IP address and approximate location in order to serve ads. This is governed by their own privacy policies, not ours. Where required, we use consent mechanisms before activating personalised advertising.

Sharing of information

We do not sell, rent or trade your personal information. We share data only in these narrow situations:

  • Service providers — our hosting, email delivery and backup vendors, who process data strictly on our instructions.
  • Legal requirement — if we receive a valid court order or a lawful request, or we must disclose to prevent imminent harm.
  • Site transfer — if the site is sold or merged, your data may transfer with it. We will tell you before that happens.

How long we keep data

  • Account data is kept while your account exists.
  • Server logs are rotated and deleted within a short fixed period.
  • Aggregate analytics records are deleted after the retention window configured by the administrator.
  • Bookmarks that were never approved are removed automatically after the pending-retention window.
  • Deleting your account removes your profile, your bookmarks and your personal data from our database.

Security

We hash passwords with bcrypt. All pages are served over HTTPS. Uploads are restricted to specific image formats and validated. Administrative actions are protected by role checks, and destructive actions require re-authentication where appropriate.

No system is perfectly secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, change your password immediately and email us at contact@socialbookmarkingonline.com.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the GDPR, the CCPA or equivalent. You can, at any time and free of charge:

  • Access — ask what information we hold about you.
  • Correct — ask us to fix anything inaccurate.
  • Export — receive a machine-readable copy of your account data and your submissions.
  • Delete — ask us to erase your account. Note that bookmarks you submitted are public content; deleting your account removes your profile and unpublishes them.
  • Object or restrict — ask us to stop a particular use of your data.

Write to contact@socialbookmarkingonline.com. We aim to respond within 30 days.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13, or the equivalent minimum age where you live. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes. When we make a material change we will update the date below and, where appropriate, announce it on the site.
